Some Not So Mainstream SEO Blogs You Should Check Out

I do read a ton of blogs about SEO and business in general. It is always good to get other people’s perspectives, but it is also very hard to sort through all the mire and muck to find the true gems. Even some of the most trusted industry sources can make mistakes.

SEO Mofo (warning: curses like a sailer) – is a very interesting blog. You really have to check out his about page. Darren catches great little details about SEO and has some SEO/Development posts that are interesting. I can’t wait to see more posts from him. Oh…and check out this comment at SEOMoz. – I can’t believe he just got three direct links out of me.

Blue Hat SEO (warning: curses worse than a sailer) – Eli is one of my favorite SEO authors and has a great series on building an SEO empire. I like to stay on the white hat side of things, but you can learn many things about SEO from these black hat guys like using site scrapers and spammers to your advantage.

SEO Theory – If I had to describe Michael Martinez in one word, it would be sophisticated. At least that is what I gather from his writing. He had abandoned the SEO theory blog for other projects and I am really excited that he is writing there again. His posts tend to be lengthy…ok, that is a severe understatement, but every word is worth the read.

You may want to try one of his SEO challenges. I also enjoy Martinez’s occasional lambasting of SEOmoz (no offense SEOmoz), but its nice to have sharply differing viewpoints from two credible sources to study.

I am planning on making some changes to this site very soon. You will find that I will be blogging on a regular basis, but the blog may be moved to a sub page and a new design rolled out to the site.

Thanks for the links! One of my favorites is seo-scientist.com. Branko doesn’t post often, but when he does, he takes a rational and scientific approach to SEO which is very refreshing.

  3. I think that sometime SEOmoz needs to be lambasted a little bit. I think they are a little too smug for their own good, like Prius and Mac owners… Hey wasn’t there a South Park episode dedicated to that subject. Anyway, I’m checking out these blogs now.

I’m a huge fan of Blue Hat SEO site. Eli speaks the truth without holding back. If that person curses a lot in person, might as well curse a lot when writing posts :)

    @Donnie, lol…great point.

@Eren. thanks for stopping by :)

@Kai, There is just nothing like Blue hat anywhere else on the internet

  7. Nice list – I have to admit, especially after checking it out, that I was surprised my company’s firewall/filter didn’t block SEO Mofo. Good stuff!

  10. I like Blue Hat, if only for completing the set of magic ‘hats’.

  11. Very nice list. I too am a fan of Blue Hat SEO and really enjoy reading his posts but unfortunately as soon as he discloses a new technique, hundreds of people who read about it start using it too and that often makes it less effective.

  12. Kinedo says:

These were great! SEO Mofo is really funny. Thank for the list. I’m

  13. well i check SEO Mofo blog and i find it as nice and very informative blog about seo and the usp of the blog is that you find a detail explanation about the topic.

  14. I often type in random queries when I’m looking for good topics to write about. Today one of the queries I tested was “seo science”. A few people do search for “seo science”, although I am not sure of who or why. Perhaps only the people hoping to rank for “seo science” are searching for the term.

  15. I could not believe the Blue Hat SEO site! You were not kidding about the cursing. Interesting posts there though.

  16. Dina says:

Thanks for the information. I am looking for a good SEO for my new website.

  17. omg cant believe seomoz can actually make a mistake. I consider it and seobook as the bible of the industry. thanks for nailing this list out buddy. on second thought they remind that the websites are run by humans who are prone to error naturally..

  18. I regularly visit the Blue Hat blog, I have bookmarked many of Eli’s posts and continue to go back to these again and again :)

Didn’t know about others but will check them out. I would call bluehat almost all mainstream as SEOMoz or SEObook ;-) More than SEOMoz, SEObook needs some lambasting, most of their posts are turning out be rants and don’t really have useful information.

  19. I enjoy the SEO Mofo link it’s written in a way that makes me laugh :)

  21. I love SEO MOFO after finding it out on this blog. I can finally listen to someone amusing talking about SEO.

  22. Lol, I guess SEO MOFO is the best. Thanks for sharing this hidden gem. I agree with commentators above about BlueHatSEO, I think it should be included in mainstream blogs now :)

  23. I am the follower of Blue Hat SEO. Going to check the other blog. Thanks for the information.

    Have a great time :-)

  24. Blue Hat SEO is great, although most of the techniques they talk about are quite advanced, and could do more harm to your site than good IF not done properly. I’ll have to check out the rest on the list, thanks :)

  25. I have read about SEO Mofo somewhere but I didn’t check it out then. Now that you have mentioned it here, maybe I should now. At least, try to learn something from those in the know… curses or no curses! Anyway, curses can make a post a really interesting read… if they are used right. :)

  26. Thanks for the warning about the language, they check for that here at work. Sorta like NSFW? Anyway thanks for the list I thought I had already found the most cutting edge SEO blogs out there, but I was wrong.

  27. Reach says:

Great links, i need to slow down and read up on some this, i know it will help me later on. Like some of the others that commented so far, i’m not into blackhat SEO but the line is getting harder to determine for me lately..

  28. loan scams says:

Hey thanks for the links. I should check out each website of seo guys in a very detailed manner. By the way, you have given a very short sweet good bio about each author which made me to check out whole of your blog and most of the wonderful posts here.

  29. Thomas says:

Thanks for the list of great SEO blogs. I’m always looking for new info and another perspective. Whew that guy does cuss alot!:)

  30. When I read the about page for SEO Mofo I was lol. He is too funny! These websites you shared will definitely help anyone with their SEO. Thanks for sharing.

  31. I’m just know learning the ins and outs of SEO. I will make sure to check out the sites you posted, I’m not worried about a few bad words. :D I still don’t understand if there is a “trick” to SEO, or if after learning what I have I am still doing something wrong. I’m getting back-links and doing social media, but maybe I’m not doing it enough, or in the right places even. I would say I am on the “white hat” side of things also, and I’m a “noob” for sure. :\

  32. After reading about SEO mofo on your blog I can’t stop visiting that site. I mean its like no other and I don’t mind the language at all, it makes it more interesting and not your everyday stuff.

  33. Jason says:

@green plants….email me any time you have a question :)

  34. great list of blogs. I like bluehat seo too – that seo empire series is great – I’m not sure how well that works today – But i have learned a lot from reading his posts
