4 Insights Into SEO

SEO is growing. Companies who typically use traditional marketing channels are shifting their funds to the internet. Even the AP is looking for a piece of the action. Of course they just called Google up and demanded to see improved search rankings.

Google insights provides an excellent way to track the popularity of a search term over time. The data is most likely correct since it is coming from Google itself, however Google does have a history of manipulating certain results.

This chart is a nice little embed script from Google Insights for a search of SEO with a few observations. Click on the link in the chart to see all of the information.

1. More SEO related searches occur in India than any other country

Hmmmm……I wonder if that is why I delete thousands (and I do mean thousands) of spam comments from India? India has truly become an SEO hotspot. There is an SEO company here in Atlanta who sales SEO services for very cheap. I investigated some of their rankings and they have been outsourcing their SEO linkbuilding to an Indian company. The quality was reprehensible.

Many people do offshore their SEO to India. I do not think it is a good idea, but Bob Mesa seems to have been successful at doing it. I think we are going to see more credible SEO companies emerge in India, especially for influencing search rankings in Asia.

2. Google is still #1

Of course we already knew that, but the top SEO related search is “Google SEO”. Most of the time when someone calls me looking for SEO, they ask how they can rank well in Google. Being able to master Google SERPS will certainly provide a good stream of income over the next 5-10 years.

3. Wordpress and Joomla SEO is on the rise

The two breakout terms are “Joomla SEO” and “Wordpress SEO”. More and more companies and individuals are migrating their websites to these CMS platforms. Having strong knowledge of these two platforms is a critical “know how” for almost any SEO Consultant.

4. SEO is simply here to stay

SEO is becoming more mainstream. More and more companies not only want to, but desperately need to get customers from the search engines. Every time I sit down with a local business about SEO the story is always the same.

We built this business using the yellow pages and the newspaper, now we hardly get any referrals at all from these sources. We are only doing business by word of mouth and repeat customers. We need to be in Google.

Is there a possibility that Search could completely change as we know it and Google disappear. Unlikely, but it could happen. People will always need viable solutions for finding ways to meet their needs. I suppose search engine optimization could morph into simply search optimization along many web 2.0 social venues, but whatever it is called, search will still be very profitable.

    Hi Jason,
I’ve come to understand that in order to really do good SEO it’s always good to know you CMS very well. And yes Wordpress is so much more advanced than static websites for SEO.
Personalized and social search is something that will mesh in the future in my opinion. So it’s essential to integrate them into whatever we’re doing.
    All the best,
    Eren
